Why Talk to a Psychologist?

Ups and downs are a normal part of life. Sometimes the downs are a bit overwhelming. They generate stress and threaten your confidence, your peace of mind and your relationships. That’s the time to talk to a psychologist.

WHY TALK TO BEECROFT FAMILY COUNSELLING?

The focus of Beecroft Family Counselling is to work with young people and their families. Raynor Lander has many years of working with young people in the areas of depression, anxiety, academic problems, examination anxiety and stress related to becoming adults in a complex world. The teenage years are times of adjustment and growth when young people find out who they are. They lay the foundations for their futures. At the present time there are many more pressures on young people than ever before!

Raynor is also experienced in couples therapy and relationship counselling including, conflict which is present in all relationships. Successful conflict resolution will bring us closer to those we love whereas brushing matters ‘under the carpet’ often ends in relationship breakdown and distress for all members of the family.

There are many common areas of disagreement or conflict which occur in families including bringing up children, sexual issues, dealing with blended families; negotiating household duties and coping with teenagers. Couples also have competing work demands. There are so many demands that couples do not have sufficient time to nourish their own relationship. Couples often find they are growing in different directions and this becomes a problem as the children grow up, go on to tertiary studies or leave home.

Counselling is a way of clarifying and resolving issues by addressing emotional barriers and working out practical strategies to reduce stress and strengthen relationships.

Life does not need to be a continual struggle!

A psychologist is outside your normal daily life and can help you see issues with “new eyes”. You work together to find good coping strategies and develop new skills that you can use for the rest of your life.

Do You tick any of these boxes:

  • Teenage problems (poor self esteem, academic problems, depression, anxiety)
  • Relationship difficulties
  • changing career
  • feeling stressed too often
  • constantly worried about income
  • beginning or ending a relationship
  • bothered by issues from the past
  • changing family responsibilities
  • parenting issues

Talking it over with a psychologist will help you develop resilience and mindfulness. You will find new ways to address issues and get back to being comfortable with life. Contact us to book an appointment

Counselling empowers you and helps you to be the person you want to be.

How we work with you

Treatment plans are tailored to meet your individual needs and our approach may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Clinical Hypnosis and EMDR (a reprogramming system which assists individuals to overcome traumatic and adverse life events). EMDR is a very effective and relatively short-term treatment. We also use Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) which encourages mindfulness and a flexible approach to difficulties.

In short, we offer practical, holistic treatment where any or all of these approaches can help you live a happier, more productive life.

EMDR? (Eye movement desensitization & reprogramming) What is it?

It is a type of therapy originally used for past traumatic events but now it is used for any adverse circumstances from the past which are affecting the present. Some of the conditions include:
depression, anxiety, phobias, lack of self-esteem, and areas like performance enhancement and weight control. EMDR has a direct effect on the way in which the brain processes information. It is a physiologically based therapy, using the neuroplasticity of the brain to desensitize adverse events.
The memory remains but the negative thoughts and feelings associated with the memory do not.
Hence, adverse events do not continue to affect our life. This is a wonderfully liberating experience!

There are multiple research studies demonstrating that EMDR is an effective form of treatment for many kinds of problems.

Clinical Hypnosis

Hypnosis is used in conjunction with other therapeutic techniques to assist people to deal with their problems. These techniques include psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and hypnosis. As all hypnosis is self-hypnosis clients are taught these skills to use in their daily life to assist in stress management and to bring positive changes to their lives. Hypnosis can also be used to enhance self-esteem, build self-esteem, reduce their weight or overcome habits which are impacting lives.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
